Hopefully this page will help you get to know me a little more. I'm humbled to get so many questions from people out there asking about my own personal approach to living a healthy lifestyle. I'm listing some here that I get asked frequently.

A:  I was scouted pretty unexpectedly. After being named as Body-for-LIFE Champion by EAS, I was invited to represent and promote EAS at the 2009 Arnold Classic Fitness Expo. I was using a self check-in terminal at the airport for my departure flight home when I was approached by my agent with the prospect of working together. A couple weeks later I signed a 3 year contract with Wilhelmina, NY.  Shortly thereafter, I also signed with Wilhelmina Brown (Wilhelmina affiliate) in Austin, TX.

I, myself, have been inspired by so many magazines, advertisements, and models and still am. I love the fact that I now get to inspire others through this avenue. I'm excited to be expanding beyond just fitness to pursue lifestyle modeling and acting as well.
 

A: I use supplements occasionally for convenience purposes mostly. So I'll have a protein shake on the go or an even less occasional protein bar. I also like using whey protein to boost the protein content in various recipes, for things like protein oatmeal or protein pancakes. Other than that, I stick to whole foods. I prefer real food over supplements.
A: Of course I don't eat perfectly all the time. I'm human not a robot! I see food first and foremost as fuel for my body and try to stick with that mindset on most days of the week. But food is also enjoyment for me, and living a healthy lifestyle means also allowing myself to enjoy cheat foods in moderation. To me, one of the greatest pleasures in life is to just enjoy a nice glass of wine with some cheese and crackers or to be able to experience foods that are specialties in a certain region when traveling.
A: 70-80% of the time I'm on an eating schedule. Most days, I eat 5 meals spaced 2-3 hours apart and consisting of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. I always drink at least 1 gallon of water every day. I eat a ton of vegetables, at least 5-7 servings a day. I relax a little more on weekends typically as well. I also modify my eating while traveling and aim for at least 4 slightly larger meals on those days. It's just more realistic while I'm traveling. A: There are so many things!  To be able to give someone else tools that can change their life forever is extremely rewarding. Some people might start in a place where they are unfit, unhappy, and don't even know where to begin to regain their self confidence. To watch them physically transform is a really fun thing, but to also see them change on the inside and start having a completely different attitude and energy in their entire being....well nothing can top that.
A: There are so many people out there that haven't taken things lying down and have fought to create better lives for themselves, despite suffering setbacks. I'm constantly inspired by hearing others' stories of victory in overcoming obstacles.

Outside of that, I'm inspired by all of the little things in life. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true! I'm inspired every single morning when I walk out my door and smell the fresh air, when I see a rainbow, or when I see a child do something cute and innocent. I appreciate all of the little things in life and never take anything for granted. I see so many acts of kindness and things to be grateful for in this world. It just makes me want to be a better person myself.

A: Knowing that other people look to me for advice and as an example is probably the biggest motivator of all. We all have the ability to be an example to people we might not even know are watching, whether it's kids in public, family members, or the checkout person at the grocery store.  I'd like to believe that the example I set will motivate others to also embrace a healthy lifestyle. 

I'm always setting new goals for myself and changing up my workouts. Having fresh new music is a big motivator for me too. I keep my iPod charger with me at all times just in case it dies, because I am pretty much worthless in the gym without my music. I am always thinking ahead to the future and the kind of life I want to create for my family. For me, it's not about being a certain size or having 6 pack abs. I want to live a long healthy life free from disease, and that alone is enough to motivate me to make the best choices I can each day.
Q: What type of motivational speaking do you do? What do you like about it?
A: The thing I like best about motivational speaking is being able to connect with people who I might have never met otherwise. Traveling to different places and presenting on topics that deal with nutrition and fitness just makes me more motivated myself.  I used to be a school teacher before I changed careers, and speaking gives me that connection with an audience who is eager to learn something new. I love being able to share what has worked for me and for my clients with others. I always leave feeling like I've made an impact and that people leave with answers to questions they had or a renewed motivation to make health more of a priority in their lives.
A: I do alternating days of cardio and strength training most weeks. I love doing HIIT for cardio, but also enjoy running outdoors occasionally, hiking, or moderate indoor cycling if I want to crack open a good magazine or book. For strength training, I incorporate all kinds of techniques into my workouts: supersets, giant sets, drop sets, pyramid training, circuit training...anything to change it up and keep my body guessing.
